Trends v2.0

The trend network

Each trend is a dot sized by its sensitivity to the scenarios and coloured by theme, with each theme named beside its cluster. Lines join trends of Moderate similarity or above.

Trend names are hidden to start with: point at a trend to see its name and its links, or use Show trend names to label them all. Scroll to zoom and drag to move. Select a theme in the legend to see it alone. Layout switches between two readings. Defined clusters arranges the picture by the ten themes. Organic gives the layout no themes: each trend keeps its strongest link, the strongest share of all links is added, and the clusters shown are whatever those links hold together. Cluster spread sets how far apart clusters are drawn, and Link pull how much tighter strongly similar trends sit. Colour by also offers an attention heatmap over 90 days, 180 days, one, two or three years: blue where a trend’s attention has fallen over the period, red where it has risen and grey where it has held, each against the typical trend. Heatmap of then sets the place: the world, a region or a G20 member, each read from its own searching and reading.
